1. The question
“I feel like I’m either yelling or completely shut down when I’m at home. I hate that my kids see me like this and I don’t know how to turn it around.”
2. Our answer
We get a question like this at least once every week.
And it always hits SO HARD because we’ve lived it.
No matter how much we tried… the yelling, withdrawal, guilt, and shame… it all just kept repeating.
But once we started taking this kind of work seriously, we realized that you can’t willpower your way out of burnout. And that’s exactly what we were (and so many of you currently are). BURNT OUT.
So, our tip of the week…
🌡 Schedule Emotional Temperature Check-Ins
Basically, your burnout is going to build until you snap. Then repeat.
And the first step in breaking any cycle is learning to recognize your state before it hijacks you.
So today, try this:
Set a reminder on your phone to go off every 4 hours (like 8am, 12pm, 4pm, 8pm). Label it “Check My Emotional Temperature.”
When it goes off, pause and ask yourself, “How am I feeling?”
Calm and connected? Anxious and agitated? Numb and checked out?
What’s important is you don’t have to go into fixer mode right away.
Your goal here is to just notice it.
Because… we can’t effectively change anything that we haven’t measured first. So sit with it. Understand it. Process it. Allow yourself to move through it.
Awareness will always be step one. Regulation comes next…
