1. The question
"Life is just all chaos and no fun. I feel like I’m failing at parenting, I can’t keep up with everything, and I just want to enjoy life. Please help!”
2. Our answer
This was us not too long ago so we feel this deeply.
As parents of four young kids, we’ve had to learn that trying to keep up during this season of life is just a losing battle.
So the solution (and this may not sound right) is to surrender.
Not like in a "give up" way, but in a "this is my life right now” kind of way.
Basically, the sooner you can surrender to this season, the sooner you can actually start enjoying it.
Psychologists call this radical acceptance. It’s the idea that fighting reality only makes things worse.
The more you tell yourself, “My house should be clean. My kids should be calm. I should have my life together.” — the more miserable you become.
But if you can shift to, “Yep, my house is a mess, my kid just tried to ride the dog, and bedtime is an absolute joke… but this is life right now,” — you take away its power to ruin your day.
So try this…
The next time your kid is doing something that makes your eye start to twitch…
Pause. Take a breath. Just observe it instead of immediately reacting (and bonus points if you find the humor in it).
You can CHOOSE to control your mindset. And once you’re able to defeat those automatic negative thoughts, you can begin to take back your life.
