Is vacationing with young kids worth it?

Aug 08, 2024

Hi Happy Humans!

Our weekly 3 things are a bit different this week...

We're currently on vacation with our extended family at the lake in New Hampshire, and instead of fielding a question from the community like we usually do, we're going to answer one of our own that came up yesterday.

So, here's our:

1️⃣ Burning question

2️⃣ Actionable tip

3️⃣ Resource from our toolkit

1. The question

"We're on vacation, but it doesn't really feel that way.

It seems like we're just back at home managing tantrums and our kids' big emotions instead of actually enjoying the moment.

Are these vacations really worth it?"

2. Our actionable tip

Yes… it’s worth it.

Even though vacations like this can be packed with tantrums, they also offer unique opportunities to build stronger connections.

So, our actionable tip:

✅ INVEST IN MOMENTS OF CONNECTION

In addition to managing the chaotic moments, we’ve also been WAY more present than usual.

So far this week we’ve played cards, gone on kayak rides, and had multiple late-night dance parties.

The tantrums are still here. They're expected.

But investing in these moments of connection now will end up paying off months (and even years) down the line.

When we take the time to intentionally connect with our kids in such an intensive way, we pave the way for a stronger future relationship.

All of these shared experiences are helping us build a foundation of trust, understanding, and love that will help us all better navigate the daily at-home grind once we get back to it.

In this season of life, vacations should feel overwhelming in the moment.

We just need to remember that the pockets of joy and connection that are embedded within the chaos are invaluable investments in your family's future.

So as we head into another day of whining, crying, and more, let’s remind ourselves…

Yes, it’s worth it. 🙂

3. From our toolkit

There’s no denying it… we’re chronically stressed.

Even while here on vacation, we can feel a constant layer of invisible weight on our shoulders.

We know that managing our stress is not only key to showing up as the parents that we want to be, but it also creates an environment that supports our kids’ mental health.

It’s a harsh realization, but our kids’ anxiety is likely a byproduct of our own stress bleeding over onto them.

So, to better manage our stress, we’re going to start another round of the “Release the Stress” protocol.

We’ve done the protocol a few times already, but it’s been a while since we last dug in. And to encourage you to do it with us, we’re putting our Release the Stress workshop on sale!

For a limited time only, we’ll teach you and help you put into practice a science-backed protocol (supported by over 200 peer-reviewed studies) for only $15.

The protocol requires just 15 minutes a week for four consecutive weeks so the time commitment is totally manageable. So, if you’re ready to release the stress with us…

Use this link to get our ‘Release the Stress’ workshop for only $15.

Thanks for being here. 🙂

❤️ Jenilee & Greg
