1. The question
"I feel like I’m always so close to losing it and I’m just having a really hard time enjoying time with my family. I love them, and it feels awful to say, but this just isn’t what I thought being a mom would be like. Any tips?”
2. Our answer
So first off… feeling this way makes sense.
Being a parent these days is an absolute BEAST of a job.
We’re juggling kids, work, a massive mental load, and wildly unrealistic social expectations.
Our generation is parenting without a village in a 24/7 world where we can never truly be “off.”
So, if you feel like you're constantly running on fumes, it’s NOT because you’re broken. It’s because the conditions of modern parenting are pretty inhumane.
And no, we’re not going to tell you to just take deep breaths or flip your mindset. Instead, we think you’d benefit from:
✅ RECOVERY WINDOWS
These are quick (like 1- to 2-minute) science-backed ways to give your nervous system a chance to rest for a bit.
Here are 3 of our favorites:
🌿 Step outside. Even just 60 seconds of sunlight and fresh air will help reset your stress response.
🛏 Lie down flat. For just 2 minutes. No phone. No guilt. Your nervous system will hear: “Ahhh… we’re safe.”
🎵 Play a song you love. Close your eyes. Breathe. Let your body feel the beat instead of all the outside pressure.
These tiny recovery windows aren’t luxuries, they’re biological necessities.
They take just a minute or two to put into practice, and they actually work. You just need to intentionally put them into practice throughout the day before the stress has a chance to push you over the edge.
3. From our toolkit
